Round Rock · Watering

# What days can you water your lawn in Round Rock?

Round Rock allows automated irrigation two days a week, set by the last digit of your street address: even-ending addresses water Wednesday and Saturday, odd-ending addresses water Thursday and Sunday, and only before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Unlike Georgetown's drought-stage rotation, this is a permanent, year-round schedule.

Clay soil

## Why a Round Rock lawn needs cycle-and-soak, not one long soak

Round Rock sits on the same slow-draining Central Texas clay as the rest of Williamson County. Clay takes water quickly only when it is dry and cracked, then infiltration slows to a crawl, so a single long run on your assigned day mostly runs off into the gutter.

Instead, use **cycle and soak**: split each watering into two or three short cycles with soak-in time between them, so the water reaches the root zone rather than the street. The US EPA WaterSense program recommends this same cycle-and-soak method specifically for clay soils and slopes. Source: [US EPA WaterSense](https://www.epa.gov/watersense/watering-tips). The clay science is identical to Georgetown's, covered in depth in the [Georgetown watering guide](/watering-georgetown-tx/); only Round Rock's assigned days and hours differ.

How much

## How much water does a Round Rock lawn actually need?

Match irrigation to evapotranspiration (ET), how much water the lawn loses to evaporation and plant use, not a fixed number. AgriLife recommends replacing about 60 percent of ET using local weather data. In practice that means deep, infrequent watering on your two assigned days in summer, with automated systems off in spring and fall when rain and cooler temperatures usually suffice.

The Texas A&M AgriLife [WaterMyYard](https://watermyyard.org/) program estimates that over half of landscape water is wasted to overwatering. Source: [AgriLife Bermudagrass calendar](https://agrilifeextension.tamu.edu/library/landscaping/bermudagrass-home-lawn-management-calendar/).

Common questions

## Round Rock lawn watering, answered.

What days can you water your lawn in Round Rock?

Round Rock allows automated irrigation two days a week, set by the last digit of your address. Even-ending addresses (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) water Wednesday and Saturday; odd-ending addresses (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) water Thursday and Sunday. This is a permanent, year-round rule, not a drought stage.

What hours can you run sprinklers in Round Rock?

Automated and hose-end sprinklers are allowed only before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on your two assigned days. Watering in the heat of the day wastes most of the water to evaporation, which is why the city restricts it.

Can you hand water any day in Round Rock?

Yes. Hand watering with a hose and a positive shut-off nozzle, or with a bucket, is allowed any day and any time. The two-day schedule applies to automated and hose-end sprinkler systems, not to hand watering.

Is Round Rock’s watering schedule different from Georgetown’s?

Yes. Georgetown sets days by a three-group rotation tied to its current drought stage, while Round Rock runs a permanent two-day schedule by even or odd address. The soil and the cycle-and-soak method are the same across Williamson County; only the assigned days and hours differ.
